SOAL SNMPTN 1

BAHASA INGGRIS

Text I

The nuclear family, consisting of a mother, father, and their children, may be more an American ideal than an American reality. Of course the so-called traditional American family was always more varied than we had been led to believe, reflecting the very different racial, ethnic, class, and religious customs among different American groups, but today diversity is even more obvious.
The most recent government statistics reveal that only about one third of all current American families fit the tradition mould of two parents and their children, and another third consists of married couples who either have no children or have none still living at home. Of the final the third, about 20 percent of the total number of American households are single people usually women over sixty-five years of age. A small percentage, about three percent of the total, consists of unmarried people who choose to live together, and the rest about 7 percent, are single parents, with at least one child.
There are several reasons for the growing number of single-parent households. First, the number of births to unmarried woman has increased dramatically. In addition, a substantial number of adults become single parents as a result of divorced. Finally a small percentage of deaths result in single parent families. Today, these varied family type are typical, and therefore, normal.
In addition, close friends have become a more important part of family life than ever before.
The vast majority of Americans claim that hey have people in their lives whom they regard as family although they are not related. A view of family that only accepts the traditional nuclear arrangement not only ignores the reality of modern American family life, but also under values the familial bonds created in alternative family arrangements. Apparently, many Americans are achieving supportive relationships in family forms other than the traditional one.

Text III

Languages are like living creatures that become endangered when numbers decline. Some linguists are taking action in preserving endangered languages. They believe it should be a priority since they are on the brink of extinction. Preservation can occur in two ways. First, linguist can study dying languages and seek to preserve the components of language: the sounds, the vocabulary, the grammar, and the tradition. The second way is to teach children the language and have linguists advice on language maintenance. An example of this later method is the Maori language of New Zealand. It has seen an increase in the number of speakers between 1960s and 1970s. New Zealand har since set up language nets; in early children the Maori language, exposing 100.000 children to their native tongue so far.

Research continues to undercover the complex ways in which particular foods and diet affect our well-being or ill health. We no longer simple see the body as a machine from which we remove, repair or correct   60   part. Increasingly we are likely to see the body as organic system, a holistic web of interconnected networks   61   work with and on each other incredibly complex ways. Nutritionists are the forefront of this change in thinking   62   most doctors, nutritionists prefer to look at individual holistically,   63   for the way diet influences the well-being of the person as the whole. Pertemuan 7 IAD

ASAL MULA KEHIDUPAN DI BUMI
1. Teori Asal Mula Kehidupan di Bumi
a. Generatio Spontanea

g. Teori Oparin-Haldane
A.I. Percobaan Miller berlangsung 7 hari baru diamati hasilnya.

2. Beda Makhluk Hidup dan Benda Mati

b. Komposisi Kimia
Makhluk hidup mempunyai komposisi kimia tertentu yaitu terdiri dari unsur-unsur karbon (C), Hidrogen (H), Oksigen (O), Nitrogen (N), Belerang atau Sulfur (S), Posfor (P) dan sedikit mineral. Benda mati komposisi kimianya tidak tertentu.

c. Organisasi
